San Diego has something for everyone. With a climate that is hard to beat, San Diego is perfect for families or for a romantic retreat. The shopping, restaurants, and attractions are all top notch. Luckily, there are scores of hotels in San Diego that cater to every need and every budget. Here are some of the best.

Hotel del Coronado

Although it is technically outside San Diego, this is one of those hotels that should be on your bucket list. This hotel is iconic, having been on the same spot since 1888 and welcoming everyone who is anyone over the years. Every president since LBJ has spent at least one night here.

This hotel is perfect for families as the hotel offers a myriad of activities for all ages. A 3 hour camp is available for kids 4 to 12, providing supervised activities for the kids while you enjoy the spa or just some quiet time by the pool. A myriad of beach activities are provided, including surfing and paddleboarding lessons.

The rooms are perfectly appointed, many of which overlook the beach. If you are a true early bird and are up before the sun, head out to your balcony. With a bit of luck, you will be able to witness Navy SEALS train on the beach as Coronado is where they all become the elite force they are.

The Grand Del Mar

This is one of the great hotels anywhere and is perfect for a romantic weekend away. Everything at this property is the best. The rooms are sumptuously appointed with marble bathrooms and a huge flat-screen television set.

The amenities at this hotel are such that you may not want to venture out into town at all. The golf course is one of the best in southern California and is known for the fact that caddies are still required when you play a round. The spa is second to none and the restaurant is the only 5 Star/5 Diamond restaurant around. Of course, if you wish to dine more casually, there are several options from which to choose.

La Valencia

One of the oldest hotels in San Diego, La Valencia has been welcoming guests since 1926. It has been the choice of Hollywood glitterati as well as soldiers waiting for ship out to the Pacific during World War II. It has recently undergone a renovation and the rooms are now top of the line. Some of the rooms and suites are among the best in town.

Sitting high up on the bluff, the bar is the perfect place to sip a cocktail while the sun sets into the Pacific. The restaurant has also undergone a recent renovation and now caters to more casual dining. It is perfect after a long day of sightseeing around town.

Lodge at Torrey Pines

Another destination hotel, this one is just outside La Jolla. If you are a golfer, this is the place for you. The course was designed by Reese Jones and is home to the Farmers Invitational PGA event every year. If you prefer not to play golf, the spa is among the best and offers some wonderful day packages. If you prefer to shop, the store at the resort features items unique to the hotel.

There are several choices for dining, including a formal restaurant and The Artesian Table that serves local foods and wines. The rooms are special. Their design includes William Morris wallpaper and Stickley furniture and some of the Palisade Rooms have gas fireplaces with views all the way to the Pacific Ocean.

Omni San Diego

Located in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter, this hotel is ideal if you are traveling to San Diego on business or if you are just traveling to take in a Padres game. The hotel sits directly across from the Convention Center and is connected to the baseball stadium via a pedestrian skywalk. Some of the rooms even overlook the diamond.

If you want to eat something more substantial than a hotdog at the game, the hotel has several dining options on site along with 24 hour room service. The rooms are all nicely appointed and include what you would expect from a hotel catering to people away on business.
